This is my E-Portfolio, that highlights the seven Instructional Maryland Teacher Technology Standards and how projects and activities throughout this class pertain to these seven standards.  Anything that you read that is underlined and in orange lettering (such as Maryland Teacher Technology Standards) are links to the referenced project or material.

I. Information Access, Evaluation,Processing and Application: Access, evaluate, process and apply information efficiently and effectively.

In order to access information effectively in this class, we utilized a variety of web 2.0 tools that enhanced our ability to process information and share it.  One example is the  presentation media – Prezi to create a presentation on Internet Safety.  Another tool that we utilized was voice thread, we reviewed content and expressed our evaluation of the topic on the site it’s self, you can find that material at this link – Voice Thread.  A second project that I completed was a review of the theory of Multiple Intelligences developed by Dr. Gardner in which I utilized Glogster to produce a interactive poster of the information I learned.  These technologies allowed us to process information, evaluate that information and processes and/or apply that information extremely efficiently and effectively.

II. Communication

A. Use technology effectively and appropriately
to interact electronically.
B. Use technology to communicate information
in a variety of formats.

The use of technology for communication purposes can be very effective for instructional purposes.  The use of a class website or management site is very helpful.  However, in this class the utilization of our personal blog (Getting Wired), and  Google Docs to communicate through out the class.  We also utilized a integrated technology called WebEx to communicate in a classroom environment online.

III. Legal, Social and Ethical Issues: Demonstrate an understanding of the legal, social and ethical issues related to technology use.

The use of technology can have major legal and ethical issues.  Some of major issues that I have examined was Internet Safety- Child Safe Portals and legalities with copyright & fair use of material. You can examine the topics in the following links.

IV. Assessment for Administration and Instruction: Use technology to analyze problems and develop data-driven solutions for instructional and school improvement

The one product that I produced that utilizes technology to analyze problems for instruction and school improvement was my blog post and prezi presentation on Child Safe Portals.  This is a major problem for students of all ages being exposed to materials not intended for them through general, open searches on line.

V. Integrating Technology into the Curriculum and Instruction: Design, implement and assess learning experiences that incorporate use of technology in a curriculum-related instructional activity to support understanding, inquiry, problem solving, communication and/or collaboration.

The integration of technology into curriculum and instruction was used in two different activities.  They were incorporated into critiques of a curriculum in technology case study or Technology Case Study – Hurricanes and TPACK LESSON PLAN.  Incorporating technology  into my unit plan and lessons provided various learning experiences that can appeal to various learners.  The use of Universal Design for Learning Principles were used to ensure a diverse learning experience for diverse learners.  You can access these materials on the page Practical Teaching Experience located on this blog.  The students through out the lesson would utilize the following technology in the lesson:

  • SMARTboard Technology – Interactive activities (Polls, matching, interactive analyzing of political cartoons) & videos
  • Homework: Ecological Footprint Activity – Online personal survey

VI. Assistive Technology:  Understand human, equity and developmental issues surrounding the use of assistive technology to enhance student learning performance and apply that understanding to practice.

This standard is highlighted in my evaluation and implementation of the Program of Universal Design for Learning. This program emphases is on integration of technology to help different learners.   We evaluated the principles of UDL in my blog “Getting to Know Universal Design for Learning” and completed an evaluation of a lesson plan that incorporated technology into a lesson to address the UDL principles.  We also completed the UDL checklist for our Practical Teaching Experience.

VII. Professional Growth: Develop professional practices that support continual learning and professional growth in technology

This class and all the activities and projects within this course has provided for professional growth in understanding technology and how it can be utilized in the classroom to help students of all learning intelligences to better understand what you are teaching them.  The idea that technology is constantly changing provides for better tools and understandings for teachers, including myself,  to apply in their classroom.
